HOW TO USE YOUR RING SLING

Rings Slings are fabulous baby carriers that are suitable for beginners to experienced babywearers; for premature babies to big kids!

Ring Slings are worn over one shoulder with your baby sitting either on your front, hip, or on your back (for advanced carries).

Ring Slings are great for quick trips to the shops or for the school run. They are light and compact, so they are perfect to leave in the nappy bag or car for when you need to give a kiddo a quick uppy!

FLIPPED RING SLING

How to use a ring sling - flipped version - global tapestry

FLIPPING the fabric of your Ring Sling on your back (rather then keeping it Flat) helps to keep your baby more balanced in the sling.  It also helps to keep the top rail away from your armpit for a much more comfortable carry.

Open the tabs below to see the how-to-use instructions.

HOW TO PUT ON YOUR RING SLING

1.  Place Rings on opposite shoulder to carrying side.  Bring the BOTTOM RAIL of the fabric up, and the TOP RAIL down, so the fabric is FLIPPED.

2.  Gather the Flipped Tail together and thread through BOTH Rings.  Then feed Tail back through the bottom ring, like an 80's belt.

3.  Stick your thumb in between the Fabric and the Rings, gently spread the fabric apart so that it isn't bunched on top of itself.

4.  Help to create your Ring Sling seat by separating the fabric and removing any overlapping.  Be sure to have the Flip along your spine.

5.  Gently feed your babies feet/legs into the sling.  Allow them to rest with the fabric in their knee creases and their bottom low.

6.  Pull the fabric up your babies back, making sure you bring it up to your armpit and that the Flip on your back stays on your spine.

7.  Pull all the TOP SLACK from your back to the Rings, pull this slack through the Rings and down through the tail.

8.  Pull the BOTTOM SLACK from your back, under baby's bottom and to therings - pull looseness through Rings.

7.  Pull all the TOP SLACK from your back to the Rings, pull this slack through the Rings and down through the tail.

8.  Pull the BOTTOM SLACK from your back, under baby's bottom and to therings - pull looseness through Rings.  #7 or #8 could occur first.

9.  Tug any other looseness up to the Rings and through the Tail - work your way across the Tail tugging out all looseness.

10.  Ta Dar!  That's it!  Check that your baby is upright, snug, deep "M" seat, Flip on your spine, should of Sling cupping your shoulder.

11.  To take your baby out of the Sling, loosen the Sling by pulling the bottom Ring up and away.

12.  Then, while supporting your baby in the same place, slide the fabric OVER your baby and off your shoulder.

FLAT RING SLING

Keeping the back of your Ring Sling FLAT may be easier and feel more comfortable for some people.  However, your baby may sit a little bit unbalanced and the Top Rail may dig into your armpit.

Open the tabs below to see the how-to-use instructions.

BREASTFEEDING IN A RING SLING

how to breastfeed in a ring sling baby carrier babywearing global tapestry

YES!  You can breastfeed while wearing your baby in your Ring Sling.  Breastfeeding in an upright position is also said to be helpful for babies who experience reflux.

  • You must fully support your baby while they are breastfeeding in your Ring Sling (it's not a hands free carry/activity).
  • Always make sure your baby's nose is uncovered and they can breath freely.
  • Once you have finished feeding your baby, always reposition and retighten the Ring Sling back to normal.

Open the tabs below to see the how-to-use instructions.

TRANSFERING A SLEEPING BABY

How to transfer a sleeping baby from a ring sling baby carrier global tapestry

Ring Slings have wonderful sleepy dust!  Many a time your baby will fall asleep in your Ring Sling.  These snuggles are wonderful and precious and very NORMAL - babies are supposed to sleep on us - it's the snuggliest, cosiest spot to fall asleep!

But sometimes, it's easier to put your sleeping baby down so that you can get more things done.  There are a number of ways to transfer a sleeping baby - if they are a heavy sleeper, you could possibly take them fully out of the Sling and pop them to bed - other bubs might prefer this way...

Open the tabs below to see the how-to-use instructions.

Photo Instructions - Transfering From a Ring Sling

1.  While supporting your baby, loosen your Ring sling.  If baby is a deep sleeper, pull the Sling over and off them like shown above.

2.  OR, if baby may wake taking the Sling off them, keep them in the Sling, lean over and place baby in their cot.  Bring the Sling over your shoulder/head.

3.  Unthread the Ring Sling so that if baby wakes up, they don't get tangled.

4.  Drape the Sling fabric over OR away from baby.  Cover your baby with their blanket as per normal.
